My Style Memoirs
HI! Welcome to my blog My Style Memoirs. I started this blog to express my love affair with fashion and document my journey as I navigate my way through fashion and ultimately "find myself". This is a place where a fashion faux pas is the framework to a genius outfit, where insanity is a norm and outrageous is part of daily life... I hope that you will enjoy it and feel inspired to embrace the crazy and sparkle...

My current obsession? YouTube vloggers
What are
vloggers you might ask? These are visual bloggers, who instead of posting their blogs in a written form they record themselves discussing a topic and usually
post them on YouTube.
Vblogger of
the moment: Kingsley
Haven’t
heard about him? Where have you been?! Living under a rock maybe?!
Kingsley’s
channel is called “It’s Kingsley Bitch” and he talks about everything from
things that annoy him to rantings about songs in his series “Overexposed”. One
thing is for sure no matter the topic, this vlogger will have you crying from
laughter within minutes.
Most of his
shows opens with his very own intro song of:
“Bitches be
over exposed and I’m sick of it”
Here are a
few of my favourite tweets from this vlogger and YouTube celeb…
“This Spurs
and Heat game got niggas more nervous than a paternity test”
“Why is the
Kool-Aid guy always busting through walls and shit? Nigga you’re a pitcher of
juice with hands. Use them.”
“Who would
be interested in killing people during #ThePurge?!! I would be robbing the mall
and the Apple Store”
“It’s June
and you’re still lame”

Enjoy and
let me know what you think!
Note to
all: not for the easily offended!

Town. This fashion label not only supplies independent boutiques across South
Africa but also various online stores, bringing the shopping experience to
you. Shopping while relaxing in bed anyone?
All clothing is locally produced and with the label’s ethos encouraging
customers “to be fashionably on-trend
without being a slave to fashion” it is easy to see why many locals, including
myself, has listed this fashion label as one of their local favourites.
Thinking that this fashion label won’t be able to cater to
your fashion preferences? Look no further, have a look at their Winter 2013
lookbook.
These timeless pieces are appropriate for all seasons and all
ages enhancing your sophistication while bringing out your playful side.
Why I love the label? Label Femme’s pieces are investment items
which won’t disappoint as you could effortlessly wear this fashion label at
work or at play. And buying their pieces has never been easier, they have an
online store based on their website which means you can view their LookBook and

Confession of the Day….
If you’re
following me on Twitter you will have noticed I tweet a “confession of the day”
almost everyday. Now these confessions are not scandalous tweets about love
lives and drama instead they’re things that I wish, that I want and so on. Here
are some of my older confessions: “I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in
my hair”, “I’m having a love affair with Google, too bad he can’t be with me
during exams” and “I used to be a mermaid”…

Why? Simple, for…

Vacation on a Budget
If, like
me, you’re blessed enough to be a university student that means that you’ve got
just over a month of winter vacation. Oooh happy days! The first few days
you’ll probably lounge around and catch up on your sleep and all the series
that you’ve missed out on, but then, in a few days time you’ll be bored out of
your mind looking for something to do. Well, look no further.
As a
student my budget is my stalker, it just won’t leave me alone. Whatever I do
there it is, looking at me reminding me I can’t do it. So here are a few things
that are budget friendly.
Top 10
winter vacation ideas:
- Go ice- skating: now this is definitely on my “To Do List”. Go with a group of friends and create some fun memories. The falling and laughing will be good for you.
- Have a movie/ series marathon: get a group of your best buddies together and watch all your favourites. Gush over the hotties and hate on the ladies, pick it apart and just have fun. Now what is a marathon without some yummy snacks? Have each person bring something this way you’ll have a variety of snacks.
- Have an indoor picnic: some friends, some snacks, some music and some gossip makes for a great way to pass a cold winter’s day.
- Do something for the first time: now winter limits this fun factor, so do something indoors. Take up a class or join a new club/ activity. This is your chance to something you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time.
- Read a novel: loved a movie and heard it was based on a book? Read the book! I guarantee you that the book is better than the movie. Here are a few movies that were based on books: All the Harry Potter movies, The Twilight Saga, Eat Pray Love, The Hunger Games, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
- Bake: what’s better than cookies and cupcakes in the middle of winter? Get a few friends together and hit up Google to find quick and easy recipes of your favourite treats. Then have a sit down session with everyone and catch up.
- Volunteer: recently Cape Town experienced a hail storm which painted the city white but also resulted in lots of damage and loss. Various charities have been having drives to support those who lost their shelters and
- Intern: put one foot in the door in terms of your career path. I’m sure many firms wouldn’t mind someone helping out for a few days. But keep in mind most companies do not pay you for this. Bright side? It would look great on your CV.
- Get a part-time job: spent your vacation passing time and making money, that way you’ll meet new people and be able to save up.
- Just have fun: the point of your vacation is to relax and gather your wits not to be stressing about second semester, you’ll have more than enough to stress when the time comes. Spend this time with friends and family and doing what you love. Most importantly have fun and create amazing memories.
And now,
for all my international readers:
10 Things
to do this Summer Vacation
- Go to the beach: a few friends, some ice-cream and some sun = amazing day.
- Dip-Dye your hair. Yes I said it, dip dye it. If you have dark dye first dye the bottom blonde and then dip-dye it a cool colour. Already blonde? What’s stopping you? Pastel colours always look great.
From someone who has done this themselves, this is a definite DO!
- Have Picnics in the sun: a blanket, friends and food makes for a fun day.
- Do something for the first time!
- Go on an adventure: climb a mountain or just take a hike. But do something adventurous. Be safe and tell me all about it!
- Take up surfing! Need I say more? This is definitely on my “To Do List” next Summer.
- Get a part-time job: make some money!
- Intern: up your experience!
- Soak up the sun!!!
