Not Trending

I am a full believer in following your natural style instead of following trends, as the famous Yves Saint Laurent once said “Fashions fade, style is eternal”. This is something which I like to follow because I am not a fashion slave instead I reinterpret trends and then do them my way instead of run way. Other peoples style always interest me as there is always someone, whether it be a fellow blogger or fellow university student, who will wear the exact same shirt as me but in a completely different way. And this is something which I love, a completely different interpretation and her own attitudes reflected through her style. But, and yes there is a but, there are some things which should just not be allowed and “personal style” is just not a good enough reason for wearing them.

The Two Inexcusable's:

The first: Shades Indoors…

Yes, I’m sure we’ve all seen this. You’re shopping in an indoor shopping complex, I have issues with the word “mall”, and suddenly someone passes you wearing shades. Uhmmm, are the bricks and concrete not a good enough medium for keeping out the sunlight? This is something I just don’t understand. Why? Just why?

Second: Leggings as pants.

One word: Jeggings.

Now this just upsets me. When I first discovered leggings I thought they were the most comfortable bottoms ever. They were easy to move in and a no fuss clothing item which were perfect for lazy days and lounging about. However, over time you run out of longer length tops and its back to jeans and pants, then, there was the creation of jeggings. These were perfection as they offered the same support as pants mixed with the comfort of leggings. Now these, a personal favourite, jeggings could be worn with anything from longer lengths, hi-lows, crop tops, it was multi functional. Then the inexcusable happened, leggings and jeggings were confused and suddenly you have people wearing leggings as pants! No. just no. if you’re not sure about the difference Google image the difference and note how leggings are flimsy and paired with longr tops and jeggings give you support, but get some clarity, as there is nothing flattering abut over exposure and panty lines.

Two Local Designers One Outfit

Cape Town's in between weather of not warm but not cold either is the perfect opportunity to rock a mixture of trends. I combined my glitter print leggings from local designer Koji, studded black pumps from David Tlale and one of my favourite vintage blazers. As the weather is ever changing you could carry a funky scarf with you and just add it to the outfit if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
