Vacation on a Budget

If, like me, you’re blessed enough to be a university student that means that you’ve got just over a month of winter vacation. Oooh happy days! The first few days you’ll probably lounge around and catch up on your sleep and all the series that you’ve missed out on, but then, in a few days time you’ll be bored out of your mind looking for something to do. Well, look no further.

As a student my budget is my stalker, it just won’t leave me alone. Whatever I do there it is, looking at me reminding me I can’t do it. So here are a few things that are budget friendly.

Top 10 winter vacation ideas:

  1. Go ice- skating: now this is definitely on my “To Do List”. Go with a group of friends and create some fun memories. The falling and laughing will be good for you.

  1. Have a movie/ series marathon: get a group of your best buddies together and watch all your favourites. Gush over the hotties and hate on the ladies, pick it apart and just have fun. Now what is a marathon without some yummy snacks? Have each person bring something this way you’ll have a variety of snacks.

  1. Have an indoor picnic: some friends, some snacks, some music and some gossip makes for a great way to pass a cold winter’s day.

  1. Do something for the first time: now winter limits this fun factor, so do something indoors. Take up a class or join a new club/ activity. This is your chance to something you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time.

  1. Read a novel: loved a movie and heard it was based on a book? Read the book! I guarantee you that the book is better than the movie. Here are a few movies that were based on books: All the Harry Potter movies, The Twilight Saga, Eat Pray Love, The Hunger Games, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

  1. Bake: what’s better than cookies and cupcakes in the middle of winter? Get a few friends together and hit up Google to find quick and easy recipes of your favourite treats. Then have a sit down session with everyone and catch up.

  1. Volunteer: recently Cape Town experienced a hail storm which painted the city white but also resulted in lots of damage and loss. Various charities have been having drives to support those who lost their shelters and

  1. Intern: put one foot in the door in terms of your career path. I’m sure many firms wouldn’t mind someone helping out for a few days. But keep in mind most companies do not pay you for this. Bright side? It would look great on your CV.

  1. Get a part-time job: spent your vacation passing time and making money, that way you’ll meet new people and be able to save up.

  1. Just have fun: the point of your vacation is to relax and gather your wits not to be stressing about second semester, you’ll have more than enough to stress when the time comes. Spend this time with friends and family and doing what you love. Most importantly have fun and create amazing memories.
